We had two days to get off from Bangalore and went off to Palolem Beach, South Goa. We went on "Seabird Tourists/Travels" which I would really not suggest unless you want company of bed bugs, being broken down in the middle of the night, reaching 5hours late etc. "VRL" which we took back home was really good and reached in some 12hrs including the munch breaks. (There are no trains running for a weekend break to Goa, wonder why!)
After the break down and snail pace journey we reached Canacona new bus stand at around 1:30pm (while ~7:30am was the scheduled time). You can take a rickshaw or taxi to get to Palolem beach. The rickshaw should cost around 50Rs.
Palolem beach itself is very calm and beautiful with shacks all along the shore. We had booked "Sai Valentine" which was on one of the right end of the beach. Almost all shacks are basic but decent enough with a double bed, mosquito net and attached bathroom. We paid 750rs/cottage for 2/day. Here again you can bargain.
Restaurants we went to are Draupadi, Magic italy, Fernandes of which latter one is inexpensive while all are good. There are no ATM facility available and most places dont accept Cards. There are couple of shops where you can swipe your card and for 3% commission they give you money for a minimum of 1000Rs. If you plan to make the most of cheap liquor Goa is famous for, you should probably not go to any restaurants but buy from wine shop (The only one at palolem is located few meters from the entrance to the beach).
Palolem is very calm and beautiful and so one could spent most time in the sea swimming, playing, kayaking etc. Even very late into night restaurants are open (unlike B'lore) and beach itself looks very safe to take a stroll into Silent Noise party happening at one end of the beach.
There are no water sports as such at Palolem and we headed to Varca beach for parasailing, Banana ride etc. I would suggest not to take Boat to Varca as it would take off a neat 4-5Hrs from your day for the travel alone.
Sai valentine was pretty much a decent place to be though maybe next time I would try and go to "Fernandes". We missed on the "Silent Noise" which could be a priority next time. I would definitely go back to Palolem for the Goan Food and the silent Beach.
